Ocean Power Various alternative energy companies are developing promising systems designed to harness the power of ocean waves and tides and even convert thermal energy via turbines that power generators. Ocean energy density is approximately 1000 times higher than wind density and innovative buoy systems promise high predictability, low visual impact and low cost of generation. Ocean Power Technologies (NASDAQ: OPTT) launched a new PowerBuoy in Hawaii in November of 2008 and signed agreements to begin construction of Power Wave Stations in December of 2008. Among other applications, wave generated energy is expected to power desalination stations, Utility Scale Power Plants, Hydrogen production facilities and Natural Resources Processing in remote locations.
